AnnotationStaff in the acute sector care for many people with dementia without the knowledge and skills they need. This collection of papers, based on a conference, aims to assist staff in beginning to understand dementia care. Various perspectives of the difficulties in caring for patients with dementia in the acute ward setting are presented, including medical and nursing perspectives. Other issues covered include communication, managing behaviour, maintaining contact with carers, and promoting dignity. Some examples of creative staff responses to the needs of patients with dementia are included. (AKM).
