AnnotationThis pilot study aimed to study the sociology of fears and insecurities that older people express about their everyday lives, focusing on the relationship between older people, and children and youth. Drawing on data from 75 in-depth interviews with older people in Swale, the report describes older people's views on their role in society, contact with children and younger people, personal security, generational differences, social change, and parenthood. The report concludes that the tendency to exclude older people from child care responsibilities reinforces their isolation and consolidates their sense of insecurity. Suggestions are made for policies that encourage the development of intergenerational interaction. (AKM).
