Population review 9: Summary of issues | Author(s) | John Craig |
Corporate Author | Office for National Statistics - ONS; Government Statistical Service - GSS |
Journal title | Population Trends, no 88, Summer 1997 |
Pages | pp 5-12 |
Keywords | Demography. |
Annotation | Previous population reviews were published separately as the 1977 and 1984 Demographic Reviews. This concluding article to the present "Population review" series brings together the key changes since the last Review, summarising the situation as regards population growth, age structure, external and internal migration, the working population, fertility, mortality and health, and households and families. Population growth has resumed: although fertility is still low, the expectation of life is rising, and there is also a net gain from migration. Changes in lifestyle - the steady increase in cohabitation, births outside marriage, and relationship break-ups - has led to changes in composition of households and families. (RH). |
