AnnotationUsing qualitative methods, this study explored the perceptions of Vietnamese immigrants and Vietnamese American professionals in the United States (US) regarding caregiving, dementia and help-seeking. Of interest to practitioners are: the importance of hierarchy within the family and the community; the low priority of dementia and care of older people in a list of problems facing this group; the variety of Vietnamese words and phrases that can be used to describe symptoms associated with mental illness and dementia; and a willingness to use services. Findings can be used to increase the cultural competence of workers and services for Vietnamese Americans. (AKM).
