AnnotationThis short article reports on the South Eastern Sydney Area Health Promotion Service's Healthy Older People Program, which has begun a long-term multifaceted approach to improving the quality of life of disadvantaged older people in insecure accommodation. This work is based on qualitative research undertaken during needs assessment for a health promotion programme for older people, which takes account of their views and respects their autonomy. Advocacy for policy and environmental change is the principal strategy, working with local, State and Federal governments. The project is also examining issues such as pedestrian safety, access to fresh food, affordable housing, and health and welfare services. (RH).
