Alzheimer's disease, drinking water and aluminium content
Author(s)Robert M Douglas
Journal titleAustralasian Journal on Ageing, vol 17, no 1, February 1998
Pagespp 2-3
KeywordsDementia ; Water engineering industries ; Metals.
AnnotationThis article reviews evidence as to whether Alzheimer's disease (AD) is exacerbated or initiated by deposition of aluminium in the brain, and whether aluminium ingested in water contributes to this. The author concludes that aluminium content of water should be kept as low as practicable, but that the case for changing treatment flocculants when viewed against the totality of the case against aluminium remains unconvincing.
