Annotation | This chapter investigates the reasons why older men are involved in personal caring (for wives, partners, and other older people), and explores the implications for our understanding of caring and for community care policy. Gender stereotypes and assumptions about caring have presupposed the involvement of women rather than men. The author suggests that men, particularly older husbands, need the appropriate support that recognises their caring role. |
