AnnotationThe idea of a European logo and pass for the provision of concessionary goods and services to older people on a cross-Europe basis is presented. This report is based on studies of concessionary practice in Denmark, France, Ireland, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom (UK). It identifies the `demand' - in terms of numbers, changing lifestyles, longer retirements, improved incomes, and more positive attitudes of many older Europeans; and the `supply' - the ever-growing range of appropriate service industries in travel and recreation. About a quarter of the European Union's population is aged 60 and over. Whilst many live in poverty, the proposal is more to do with older Europeans' citizenship, and providing them with a social environment to live enhanced lives of constructive leisure. Equally, commercial interests must be satisfied, with a reasonable return for both trader and customer. Examples are presented of graphic materials to illustrate how a brand identity for the Euro Pass concept might be developed.
