AnnotationIn art, there is no retirement age: an artist can continue to produce work until his death, though he may work more and more slowly. For this reason, his old age constitutes an ideal model for the gerontologist, as it is not characterised by the loss of interests that typifies many other patterns of ageing. The authors give examples from their study of the creative careers of some twenty figurative artists from the 15th century to the present day. (RH).
