AnnotationWhile social service provision to older people and spending per head is higher in London than in the rest of the country, health service provision - acute hospital treatments, "care of the elderly" beds, mental health services, annual health checks and other general practice services - falls short for the over 75s. Although older people are for the most part healthy, they have a relatively high frequency of acute episodes which involve a range of health and social care service providers. The result appears to be large local variations not only in services provided by individual sectors across London, but also in the effectiveness of their co-ordination, leading to the sorts of service deprivation described.
