Annotation | Being able to monitor the quality of care and make continuous improvements is a fundamental part of a nurse's role, particularly for those in supervisory or managerial positions. This article highlights quality monitoring standards: the International and British Standards in Quality Systems (ISO 9000 and BS 5750); the King's Fund Organisation Audit; the Patient's Charter (currently under review); and Audit Commission reports. Before devising a quality of care model, the following activities are suggested: identify values; identify standards and criteria; measurement; make interpretations; and courses of action to choose and take. |
