Annotation | This issue of Community Health Action focuses on health and ageing. It provides a range of examples to show how health service practitioners and community groups working with older people are tackling ageism, by developing a range of initiatives which not only challenge negative assumptions, but also promote positive health and health care. Examples include the Whittington Centre in south London, which provides a flexible approach to day care in a unique purpose-built centre. The value of reminiscence work is described in the work of the Age Exchange Theatre Trust and the Wells Park Health Project. The Ageing Well programme, developed in response to the Health of the Nation, provides peer support to older people. Finally Tony Carter describes how older people's views and requirements are being increasingly heard through the development of pensioners' forums. (KJ). |
