AnnotationThe 1981 White House Conference on Aging (WHCoA) had as its theme, "The aging society: challenge and opportunity". This volume examines the areas of major concern in five chapters. Chapter 1 discusses the importance of preparing the US economy for an ageing population. Chapter 2 discusses income in old age and concentrates of the social security system. Chapter 3 discusses health care: the medical care system, long-term care, and disease prevention, as well as how to control the increased costs of care to older people. Chapter 4 sets out social benefits and services; and Chapter 5 discusses the research implications of the national policy.
