AnnotationThis Act makes further provisions for promoting social welfare in Scotland. Part I sets out the requirements of local authorities under this Act, and the general administration of the Act. Part II sets out the duties and powers of local authorities regarding the promotion of social welfare, covering general social welfare services, home help and laundry facilities, and supervision and care of persons put on probation or released from prisons. Part III makes provisions for children in need of compulsory measures of care. Part IV explains the duties of local authorities regarding the provision of residential and other establishments, covering registration and inspection. Parts V and VI makes provisions for the return and removal of children within the United Kingdom (UK), and for financial contributions for children in care. The Act was reprinted in 1997.
