Annotation | Age research has its origins in three traditions, which are reviewed in this paper: medicine, the biological sciences, and behavioural and social sciences. Although ageing is acknowledged to be a dominant political and social issue and there are many opportunities for research, resources may not be forthcoming unless ageing is seen as an economic opportunity, as well as a threat.
