AnnotationThe English House Condition Survey (EHCS) is the main official source of information on housing conditions and the characteristics of people living in poor housing. The most recent is the 1991 survey published in 1993. This briefing aims to provide a broad summary of the survey's findings as they relate to older people (over pensionable age) in all tenures. The findings suggest that the conditions facing older people living in public and private rented housing are very poor. This tends to be less often remarked on than issues relating to owner occupied housing. (RH).
