AnnotationOn 24th July 1996 two Acts with significant implications for housing and older people were passed. The Housing Act 1996 introduces new measures relating to housing associations and their tenants, landlord and tenant legislation, dealing with anti-social tenants, access to council housing, and local authorities' duties towards homeless people. The Housing Grants, Construction and Regeneration Act 1996 introduces changes to the system of renovation grants, disabled facilities grants, and other grants related to repairs, improvements and adaptations. This paper highlights some of the main issues on which Age Concern campaigned, outlines the main changes introduced by the Acts, and comments on their implications for older people. (RH).
