Annotation | This report details trends in residential and nursing home provision for older people in 17 local authority and 16 health authority areas in North West England, using survey data collected continuously from 1992 to 1996. As such, it can comment on the impact of the community care changes introduced in 1993. The report confirms that concerns about the continuing business viability of the independent sector have not been borne out, although there has been a decrease in the number of such homes (just over 5%) and in numbers accommodated (7%) within a three year period. This suggests a significant diversion from residential placement to domiciliary care. |
