Annotation | This paper highlights the challenges faced by researchers conducting survey, observational, and intervention research in the nursing home environment, and offers some strategies for meeting those challenges. First, it examines barriers likely to be encountered across all types of research, emphasising problems in gaining staff support, and the need to affect staff "buy in". It then elaborates on survey, observational, and intervention studies, reviewing the literature and discussing challenges and solutions specific to each type of research. Issues addressed include ensuring comprehension of survey materials, countering potential observer biases, and monitoring protocol integrity. |
