Annotation | In this chapter, the authors attempt to communicate and discuss the main issues which they regard as important in the development of a social policy for ageing in tomorrow's Britain. They argue for an integrated, 'value-added' social policy of ageing, with commitment to six key areas: an intergenerational life course perspective; a pluralistic, positive and preventive view of ageing; the importance of combating all forms of discrimination; notions of empowerment, citizenship and rights; enabling the voices of 'ordinary' people to be heard; and critical commentary in combination with action. The Centre for Policy on Ageing's (CPA) role in the future shaping of the social policy of old age is considered. |
