Annotation | The authors review the way in which social work with older people has developed over the last fifty years, and consider its future role. Although the full effects of the NHS and Community Care Act 1990 reforms have yet to be felt, the appearance of the care manager seems to be associated with the demise of the social worker who specialises in working with older people. The authors also trace the development of geriatric medicine. Through the recollections of some of its pioneers, they consider the contributions to current and future policy affecting the care of sick and disabled older people. |
