It's never too late! physiotherapy and speech and language therapy in private nursing homes | Author(s) | Claire Jinks, Judi Hibberd |

Annotation | The nursing home setting is seen as an environment of total care and not one of rehabilitation. Therefore, residents, and family and carer expectations of the older person's abilities are not usually maximised. The needs of all parties are complex, and require support and understanding, as described in the case study in this article. The authors, working as therapists, aim to promote skills to allow the older people to maintain or achieve their maximum potential, and to enable them to lead a more autonomous lifestyle, even if 24 hour nursing support may be required. |
