Annotation | The author of this article integrates art technique, history, and clinical observation. It is commonly believed that Rembrandt's wrinkled, haggard face reflects the distresses of financial and personal losses. This research reveals signs of ageing and disease. This discovery contributes an evaluation of Rembrandt's state of health, and suggests an additional interpretation of the 1659 self portrait. |
