Annotation | Health maintenance organizations (or HMOs) - which are the providers of managed care in the US - receive a fixed annual payment for each person enrolled for their service, and thus has to take the `risk' for caring for that person for the fixed amount. This chapter presents an approach to creating an enrolment and annual screening instrument for use in the second generation Social/Health Maintenance Organization (S/HMO) demonstration. It is intended to provide a guide to developing other screening instruments, and to provide information on a set of geriatric screening measures that could be useful to various managed care organisations.
