Annotation | Recent legislation in Sweden has emphasised the right of the individual to receive public service and help at all stages of life, with the intent of maintaining a good standard of health and care provision for all. This means that in Sweden older people should be helped to remain in their homes for as long as possible, and that their integrity and autonomy should be preserved in the home-care environment. This article reviews previous studies on ageing and dementia, and caregivers' experience of burden. Increased understanding of how best to support caregivers is critical for improving the quality of home-based dementia care. (RH). |
