Author(s)Bengt Winblad
Journal titleInternational Psychogeriatrics, vol 8, supplement 1, 1996
Pagespp 133-136
KeywordsDementia ; Behaviour disorders ; Institutional accommodation ; Sweden.
AnnotationThere is increasing evidence that a patient's dependence can be reduced by improving the environment and the patient-caregiver interaction. The author reviews two Swedish studies of demented patients' feelings of belonging and toward caregivers. He concludes that, for the future, to enhance care for demented patients and to maintain optimal physical, cognitive, emotional and social functions, the living environment must be suitable and homelike. This will lead to functional improvement in patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD). (RH).
