Behavioral approaches to treatment of Alzheimer's disease | Author(s) | Burton V Reifler |
Journal title | International Psychogeriatrics, vol 8, supplement 1, 1996 |
Pages | pp 99-102 |
Keywords | Dementia ; Behaviour modification ; Methodology ; Research ; United States of America. |
Annotation | The article begins with a consideration of the assumptions in the mandate given to the National Institute on Aging (NIA) from the US Senate Appropriations Committee. This restates the broad objectives of the plan to be developed by the NIA to slow the rate of deterioration from Alzheimer's disease (AD) by 5 years during the next 5 years, and by 10 years within 10 years - coupled with improving quality of life. Two other approaches are outlined: using a health services research framework to deal with behavioural and environmental approaches to treatment; and developing a long-range research plan for behavioural approaches to treating AD.
