AnnotationIn an effort to improve their quality of life and to reduce costs, there has been a trend in recent years toward 'de-institutionalisation' of older people with Alzheimer's disease (AD). In the US, various services have evolved to allow this change, including adult day care services, home health care services, home care services, group homes, day hospitals, behavioural intensive care units, and assisted living arrangements. The author outlines ways in which this trend could be continued and improved from the services research and clinical points of view, for which resources promoting collaboration of people from different disciplines and areas of expertise are required.
