Annotation | The Person-Environment-Occupation (PEO) model suggests that strategies of environmental enhancement can influence the outcome of occupational performance in a positive manner. In this study, a novel transfer pole was installed in the homes of 30 community-dwelling older women and intermittently colour-cued. Subjects' views of the device and their ability to transfer were monitored over a three-month period using survey, performance and self-report measures. Qualitative results indicated that the subjects fully recognised and endorsed the functional utility and safety benefits of the pole. The data also highlighted that older people have insights into practical aspects of devices that could be of value to designers of assistive devices. |
