Annotation | Geriatric medicine is still a young branch of medical education and includes a comprehensive view of the patient as one of its fundamentals. At the Sackler School of Medicine in Tel Aviv, Israel, a colloquium model was chosen to assess medical students at the end of their three week geriatric clerkship. The aim of the method was to evaluate the knowledge acquired and the students' ability to cope with comprehensive problems of older patients. This article describes the colloquium model, and suggests that it provides the opportunity to evaluate students' knowledge in a way that will also outline and summarise common geriatrics principles.
