Annotation | The diagnosis of kleptomania is reserved for those exceedingly rare individuals who engage in nonsensical shoplifting of items they neither want nor need. This article presents the case of a woman first diagnosed with kleptomania at the age of 77, indicating a possible late onset course of this disorder. Particularly striking was that her pattern of stealing did not begin at an early age, and was not sporadic or episodic over the course of several years. The treatment course and patient outcome are discussed in the light of DSM-IV diagnostic criteria. |
