Annotation | There is a growing recognition of the impact of the built and social environment on the lives of people with dementia. This book contains 20 case histories of buildings designed for people with dementia, drawn from Australia and European countries, including England, Scotland, Sweden, Finland, Norway, the Netherlands and France. Each building is described in detail using a standard format. Although the buildings are all different, they share certain key characteristics: small; domestic; concealed staff rooms and offices; accessible; provide safe outside space; exceptional or total visual access; and dining or sitting rooms. In addition, they all try to fit into their localities. The book also contains three chapters describing modern principles of designing buildings for people with dementia. Photographs, building plans and 2 fold-out matrices providing information on each building are included. |
