AnnotationSince the community care changes implemented in 1993, social services departments have been undergoing considerable changes. Evidence suggests that more people are able to remain in their own homes with the help of packages of day and domiciliary care. This report, based on the findings from a questionnaire survey of social services in 24 London boroughs, examines various aspects of day and domiciliary care services. It looks at service provision and costs, including expenditure by sector and service type, the numbers of people receiving services and costs of packages of care. Charges for services and changes in charging policy are also investigated, as is the commissioning of services from independent domiciliary care providers, including contracting arrangements, rates of pay and gaps in service provision.
