AnnotationThis special supplement was derived from The Hastings Center Project on Ethics and Chronic Illness, a three-year project which started in 1984. The hypothesis of the project was that the special nature of chronic care and the unique experience of chronic illness may change assumptions about the ethics and goals of medicine. This paper looks at some of the ethical issues posed by chronic illness and outlines an agenda for future bioethical investigation. (AKM).
