AnnotationThis book explores dementia through 36 poems spoken by people with dementia, transcribed by the editor in the course of his work as a writer in residence, working with the mentally ill in nursing homes. The poems reflect particular themes, thoughts or feelings and are grouped accordingly, and include: the processes of listening and writing; life stories; feelings of panic; the stresses and strains of life in nursing homes; using language; family relationships; self-portraits; and confusion. Each section is accompanied by a short commentary which provides insight into the background of each poem. The book will be of appeal to those with a professional or personal interest in dementia, as well as those who enjoy poetry.
