Annotation | The relationship between a grandmother's role in the family and a grandmother's age is explored in this study. A sample of 100 grandmothers completed The Grandparent Strengths and Needs Inventory. A series of ANOVA's revealed three main effects of age on the role of grandmothering: older grandmothers perceived themselves to have more information about grandchildren than younger grandmothers; women who became grandmothers later in life perceived themselves to be stronger in teaching grandchildren, and were less frustrated with grandchildren than women who became grandmothers earlier in life. Recommendations for additional research are included. (AKM). |
