Annotation | Intergenerational studies as a new multidisciplinary field is emerging from a growing body of intergenerational research and programme evaluation that is now available to professionals and academics in the fields of child and adult development, psychology, education and gerontology. Research and practice in these fields recognise that there are common needs and issues affecting the young and the old, and that sharing a similar knowledge base would be beneficial in serving both client groups. The authors argue that the time has come to examine the field as an academic discipline that draws from a number of different areas of expertise to inform the work of intergenerational specialists. They present elements of a common knowledge base, and suggest how intergenerational studies might be integrated into the system of higher education. |
