Annotation | The grief of those anticipating the loss of a loved one with a chronic, debilitating illness has received little research attention to date. This study provides empirical evidence of the intensity, nature and persistence of anticipatory grief among caregivers of people with dementia. The impact of two stressors of caregiving on the course of anticipatory grief - severity of the patient's symptoms, and length of time over which a caregiver had been providing care - is also examined. Practitioners are given guidance in identifying caregivers most at risk from unresolved grief. |
