Annotation | Living either full- or part-time in a recreational vehicle (RV) has been an alternative lifestyle in North America since the 1920s, and still is today for a large number of retired North Americans. Using data from participant observation and a questionnaire survey, this ethnographic study describes the lives of older people living in RVs, focusing on their activities and social relationships, and their views on and attitudes toward their chosen lifestyle. The study suggests that RVers tend to experience a greater sense of community and fewer of the emotional problems common to older age than those who have chosen other forms of retirement living. |
