AnnotationThis paper discusses some of the dilemmas faced by a research team in trying to conduct a research study in an ethical way that considered the perspectives of the older people studied. The paper points out that the issues of power and control, that is, the degree to which researchers' views and goals predominate, is an area of concern in all research, but particularly when researching with older people. Having read published literature on ethics in gerontological research, the team tried to put these principles into practice. This paper gives an account of some of the strategies they used to try to ensure that the study was not rigidly controlled by the researchers.
