AnnotationThis document was generated by a workshop on models of continuing health care which was held in Birmingham in June 1995. Participants at the workshop included purchasers and providers from both health and social services, and representatives of the NHS Executive and the Social Services Inspectorate. This document is intended to assist health authorities in reviewing their current practice, and in developing their policies to meet local needs for continuing care. It provides a process for looking at changes which may be required in continuing health care policies, and in the balance of services in the short, medium and longer term. It also considers the implications of change for: information and monitoring processes; contracting mechanisms; budget location and delegation; and education and training.
