AnnotationThis document presents the final conclusions of the Chief Medical Officer's review on developing emergency services in the community. It identifies six priority areas: piloting and evaluation of emergency telephone services; mapping emergency services in the community; conducting research into how people react to and handle emergencies; agreeing on and publicising the key emergency care message; defining a core curriculum for First Aid training; and modernising and standardising first aid kits. The recommendations emphasise access, integration, and education. The review concluded that there was a very strong case for improving access to help and advice for the public in emergencies, where people may not need the services of the 999 ambulance, A&E (accident and emergency) departments or their general practitioner (GP).
