AnnotationVery little is known about anorexia among older adults. Since there is controversy and discussion about anorexia and ageing, further research needs to be carried out. This article discusses the anorexia of ageing, followed by a discussion of normal physiological changes and normal neurotransmitter regulation of food. Anorexia is also addressed as a symptom of other diseases. Biochemical theories are reviewed along with the impact of physical, social and psychological variables. The article concludes with a discussion about the implications, identifications and treatment of anorexia of ageing.
