Annotation | Most older people want to go back to their homes after stays in hospital or other long-term care. The question frequently asked by health care providers is whether or not it is safe for patients to return home. This article uses three case studies to discuss potentially less safe home environments based on ethical principles: autonomy (truth-telling and confidentiality); beneficence; non-maleficence; justice; and futility.
