Annotation | Older people being admitted to nursing homes in the US face a number of risks. Generic intrinsic characteristics include stress, disease, strained family and social support, and fear of increased dependency. Generic extrinsic issues for nursing homes include: their role as businesses; regulation by the state; safety aspects of health care; and risk of infection. An example of the interaction between resident and institution is used to illustrate these issues. (RH). |
