Has society abandoned the frail elderly — the viewpoint of a philanthropist | Author(s) | Len McNally |
Journal title | The Journal of Long Term Home Health Care : the PRIDE Institute Journal, vol 15, no 3, Summer 1996 |
Pages | pp 2-7 |
Keywords | Charities ; Grants ; United States of America. |
Annotation | The question of commitment to frail older people is very relevant and important to community foundations. The author describes the role of his own organisation, the New York Community Trust, through its grant-making and funding activities. He outlines work by the Trust on: home care; home assessments for older people at risk of falling; homelessness; a volunteer recreation programme for the housebound; work with grandparents as caregivers; drug abuse and AIDS; and advocacy. Some "do's" and "don'ts" about foundation fund-raising are listed. (RH). |
