Annotation | The US Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA) set up the Social Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) in the mid-1980s. The author describes her own organisation, Elderplan, a Social HMO which began in 1984 as a demonstration programme. It is funded by health care insurance, and aims to provide health and preventive care services for older people. (RH). |
