AnnotationThe risk of falls increases with age, and often result in injury and death. This newsletter is based on a systematic review and synthesis of research on the clinical effectiveness, cost-effectiveness and acceptability of health service interventions to prevent falls in older people. Thirty-six randomised controlled trials are identified which evaluated interventions to prevent falls (exercise, home assessment, type of shoe, interventions in institutional settings), and interventions to reduce the likelihood of an injury resulting from a fall (nutritional supplementation and hip protectors). (AKM).
