AnnotationThis study examined the survival differences of five multidimensional patterns defined at 70 years of age and over 20 subsequent years, in subjects from the Health-70 (H-70) study, a longitudinal gerontological and geriatric study of 70-year olds in Gothenburg, Sweden. The multidimensional patterns were identified by cluster analysis of the domains of cognitive performance, physical health, functioning, subjective well-being, and social contacts. Survival differences were found among the patterns and between genders within the patterns. Patterns with higher domain scores at age 70 had higher median survival rates over 20 years, whereas patterns with lower domains scores at age 70 had earlier mortality. Poor cognitive performance was found to be an important single predictor of mortality. Women had a 4-year survival advantage over men in all but one group.
