Annotation | This book provides an integration of gerontological theory with contemporary family therapy and practice in the United States (US). The first part reviews the efforts that have been made to integrate ageing and family therapy, and how the field has dealt with problems associated with ageing. The second part describes different models of treatment, including the use of contextual family therapy with ageing families, a solution orientation to ageing, and a developmental interaction model. In the third part, special issues associated with ageing and families are examined, such as marriage in middle and later life; gender issues and care; Alzheimer's disease and the family; family systems and nursing home systems; and dying and death in intergenerational families. The final part looks at future directions for family therapy with ageing families. |
